Curing Cancer in Pets
Twelve million dogs and cats are diagnosed with cancer each year, according to estimates by the U.S. National Cancer Institute. It is the leading cause of death among pets. Truth be told, cancer is more prevalent among dogs and cats than it is among people -- a fact of which few of us are aware.
People and pets get similar types of cancer. Because of this, new treatments for cancer in pets is also helping scientists understand new ways in which to treat these same diseases in people. For example, a clinical trial for bone cancer in dogs is yielding promising resuls for a similar cancer in children. Once again, dogs and cats are proving to be our best friends.
The Animal Cancer Foundation (ACF) funds research in new life saving cancer treatments for our companion animals. They do not fund research that either harms pets or induces cancer in them.
All of us want our pets to live long, healthy and happy lives. The orange charity collar in each gift basket is intended to help raise awareness of this devastating disease among pet owners while raising much needed funds for research.
Le Bone Appetit is proud to contribute to this cause.
